We were asked to select three photographs from our work that we felt related in some way to this week’s theme of The Global Image. I selected three from April this year, which documented my home town almost deserted on what would normally be a busy Tuesday afternoon rush hour.

Isolation, Broadstairs, April 2020

I have chosen a set of three photographs I shot while out on a walk during the early weeks of lockdown here in my home town of Broadstairs in the UK. These were taken on Tuesday 7th April 2020 between 5:20pm and 5:30pm. This time is usually the busiest time of day, due to the amount of traffic that passes through from the various businesses and schools and colleges in the immediate area.

I have chosen these three images because I feel they relate to unity and change, within the theme of The Global Image, as they capture the town in a way I have never seen before, especially at that time of day. This was a scene that many would have experienced themselves globally in their hometowns and cities. I remember images on the national news and footage of towns and cities deserted across the world and even though those photographs were surreal to view, they gave sense of peace and in numerous conversations with friends at the time, we all noticed how much nature had begun to take to the stage again in our absence.

Nature has always been important to me in some, either as a subject or somewhere to go to rest and recuperate. It's time for me to think and observe and I would like to incorporate this into y research project in some way.
