As a recap of my progress so far on my FMP, I have been exploring the locations I wish to visit and walk, these range from the coastal paths of Thanet to inland areas, looking at the history of the area along these routes and my place within the environment.

My first location was an area along the Thanet Coastal Path, situated on the north Thanet coast running from Minnis Bay in Birchington to Reculver Towers and one I have not visited for at least three years. I wanted to explore a path halfway along the route which is the location of what remains of the River Wantsum. This river was once about 2 miles wide and separated Thanet from the rest of Kent, hence giving the area the name the Isle of Thanet. Over time, this area of low-lying land filled up with sediment and joined the two bodies of land, apart from a small river that is unnoticeable which still runs from this location and down through to join the River Stour which enters the sea at the south of Thanet at Sandwich and Pegwell Bay.

The idea behind these images was to capture the area and experiment with being in the landscape, by photographing inform and behind me to portray that when we walk, we rarely look where we have been, only where we are going.

Broadstairs to Ramsgate.

Developing on from this overlaying technique, I decided to over numerous images taken on a walk to Ramsgate from my home in Broadstairs. Here I selected images taken at the start, during and once I reached my destination and overlaid them to create a time lapse in one image. I chose to include my feet as a connection to my private Instagram account whereby I sometimes share and image of my feet when I am out walking. I never show myself in selfies on my walks, but my feet are the connection to where I am.

The feedback from peers on these is helpful and saying that my choices of colour and bold colour was a change from my previous work and one way to explore and portray the location and my place in it.

From these I felt and idea was building, but I was still unsure how I could connect the place and me. Following from my Second Supervisor meeting, I and going to develop this to focus on the reason why I am walking, how it affects me and do the locations have meaning and purpose.
