By The Sea

By The Sea explores this need within some of us to visit the sea, to either gaze upon it, listen to it, immerse ourselves in it or simple be near it.

Whoever we are, whatever our situations, we all have some form of environment we are connected to and are comfortable in. A place we seek to relax, unwind, and de-stress and to many, the sea the place they that fulfils this need.

This project seeks to explore this and in collaboration with wardens from the Thanet Coastal Project and a close friend, I have set out to find out why they need the sea, what it means to them and their personal stories, along with my own connections, which sit alongside images taken of various locations in Thanet, Kent. The images in this project are all taken on my mobile phone, symbolising that need we must be connected to the world and a screen while in a moment of nature, we never truly switch off. This is also a collaboration with nature, the sun lighting each image and the sea and setting the emotion and mood for my work.

I invite the audience and viewer to make a note of their own thoughts, feelings, and stories in the blank spaces to allow them to also be part of the work, extending the collaboration aspect to a wider audience, one which anyone can participate in.
