Image Format Thoughts

I have been thinking about how my image format choices may influence the look of the image, this was inspired by work shown in Dr Steph Cosgrove’s ‘Stilled Life 2” Lecture on February 9th 2021, of Rinko Kawauchi’s. The aesthetics are like my own, soft focus, close edits, and cropped subjects, making you focus on what she is interested on within the photograph. Again, like what I am aiming to achieve.

This inspired me to try an image using a smaller ratio. Using my phone , I have used 3:4 ratio, which has cropped the screen down to give me a narrower frame. This has made me think carefully a bit more about what I include within my frame. As I am becoming more decisive on what I shoot and what to include, I wanted to explore how the format might change the aesthetic.

Then in the editing process, I cropped the image down further to the square format.

I am unsure if this edit works to bring the focus to a more precise point in the image, being on a phone there are some discrepancies as it is not quite as in focus as I would have liked, but I do like the distortion it brings to the edges of the images.
