Discernment of Work
The process of selecting my final work in progress portfolio images is based on which images I feel portray my intent the strongest, as well as showing the aesthetic and decision making behind the product of the images. In the initial selection I used my images chosen within my portfolio review as a starting point and edited the selection from there. The images below are selected based on the relevance, conformity and aesthetic appearance that has become the main feel of my work, and I feel portray my intent.

From these images, there is one that I am unsure of, which is the snow image below. Even thought it visually represents vulnerability and fragility of natural life, alongside the existence of humans, I feel it portrays more of a destruction of the object rather than the metaphorical side of fragility within ourselves. I feel maybe it is too descriptive. The aesthetics are different from my other work, as it is much lighter due to the snow and has a very minimal vignette, showing the surroundings and placement, whereas my other images, are darker and leave the surroundings to be unseen and highlight the focal areas.

In my portfolio review, I also included the Holly image. This sits well with the other images more than the snow image. It follows the look and feel of the other work and I believe portrays the intent stronger.

The next edit of my portfolio is below, following this decision to remove the snow image. Here, I have 12 images still, 9 of which are in landscape format and 3 in portrait. I was unsure about the mix of both formats, but I feel it would suit the opportunistic approach I took while shooting as well as showing my image making choices depending on the subject. I have also included one image shot on a mobile phone. Again, this is due to how the image sits within the series as one of the strongest images in portraying the intent and ambiguity of the work. Finally, it includes two images shot as still life set ups, two of the strongest images that I feel sit well with the other images and show the intent.

This edit shows the different technical choices I have made throughout the module, looking at methods such as location, image making skills and technologies used, and constructed imagery compared to that of location shoots.
I am still yet to decide if these are my final images, if they are I will need to decide on the sequence they will set within the book design next.
